Luna, the moon of Earth, is one of its oldest colonised bodies. When humankind established the first long-term habitats, back in the mid 21st Century, nobody then would have predicted Luna growing into one of human's economic powerhouses. It is home to the influential, the powerful, their workers, and all manner of people rich, middle-class, and poor. The Moon comprises several districts, each sponsored by an Earthly Nation. Each district is a part of the Lunar Authority, an intranational organisation founded to serve as their judicial and legislative body. All districts of Luna are part of the Authority, though some with greater influence than others. Luna is home to many cultures and beliefs, collectively referred to as Lunite. The majority of Lunites are baseline humans that have adapted to the low-gravity conditions of Luna. Modern advances in anti-gravity technology have allowed for conditions in some of the better funded habitats to reach near-Earth levels.

Culture

Luna is made up of countless districts, and so it would be impossible to list a full collection of the various cultures, beliefs, and politics that make up the Lunites. Historically, many working class people were brought to Luna, first by the British, and then by everybody else who wanted to stake a claim on the moon. The Lunite working class outnumber the wealthy almost 2-1, and have fought for equal rights, fair pay, and democratic representation. Although these things have not been achieved universally, it is the aim of the Lunar Authority to make it so. Lunites are proud of their new world, and have worked hard to make it better than the one they came from. In addition to baseline humans, Luna is also home to a large number of genemodders. Most of these people are relatively well off, able to afford various cosmetic procedures.

Geography

The Moon's surface is pockmarked and covered in craters. It remains barren and just as inhospitable. Cities, settlements, and infrastructure are all built under vast surface domes, connecting to each other via underground tunnels, or massive surface-crossing highways. No two settlements on Luna are the same, each being established for one purpose or another by a founding nation. Most Districts remain under the influence of the nation that founded them, such as Marginis, with its capital in Al-Biruni, which is a colonial holding of the United Arab Republics. Other regions are largely maintained by corporate sponsors on behalf of their parent nation, such as Riphaeus, with its capital in Euclides, which is administered by the European Euclides Company. Further still, some districts, like the Reiner Gamma Colony, have achieved their own local independence, and recognition from the Lunar Authority.

Most districts have a major settlement that serves as their capital. The largest of these are known as the Lunapolitans (Luna + Metropolitan), typically the concentration of power in the region. Both the Near and Far side of the Moon have seen mass urbanisation efforts over the past 100 years, with the largest concentrations being located on the far side, where concentrations of Helium-3 are at their highest. The largest city on Luna is Chang'e, located in the Apollo Crater, on the far side of the moon. It is spread across numerous biodomes, each built within the various sub-craters within Apollo. It is considered the economic capital of the moon, and is under the control of the Asian Economic Cooperative. The largest city on the near side is Diana, spread across Tranquility. It is where the Lunar Authority convenes, and home to the ISEO's Lunar Headquarters. It has grown to include the Apollo 11 Landing Site, which has been preserved and transformed into the Lunar Museum of Spaceflight. Diana is considered the cultural and historical capital of the Moon, and is under the control of its own local government, being the seat of the Lunar Authority and its Assembly.

How to Make Your Own District

A list of regions of the Moon can be found here. Pick a place, like a crater or some other feature, put a dome over it, and make it up.

Politics

The Lunar Assembly was founded in 2293 to serve as an economic and political union between the various disunited regions of Luna. It mostly exists to enforce basic, universal law and uphold civil and human rights. It has some ties to the ISEO, with the Lunar Assembly as a whole having representatives on its National Council. The Lunar Assembly also has its own standing army, which mostly serves peacekeeping and national guard duties. Some of those that enlist in the Lunar Army have found themselves part of the Espatier Corps, with their abilities better served to help humanity off-world.
