Centroamérican Economic Conglomerate

The Centroamérican Economic Conglomerate (C.E.C. Or CEC), also known as The Canal or Canal City, is an independent city-state within the Central American region of North America, Its borders encapsulate the nation of Panama and the southern parts of Costa Rica. However it formerly controlled the entirety of central america prior to the Centroamerican Civil War.

The CEC borders The Union of South American Nations to its east, and its bitter rivals The Central American Liberation Army to the North, which they’ve only recently halted hostilities with following a brutal civil war resulting in the North gaining independence from the CEC in the 2180s.

Widely regarded as “The Jewel of Latin America” the vast majority of the nation is home to Canal City, a highly urbanized megacity initially built around the Panama Canal that has grown to incorporate the entirety of Panama and southern Costa Rica’s urban areas. Canal City is home to some of the gaudiest and wealthy people on Earth, however, underneath the gorgeous skyscrapers and superficial exterior, there lies a dark underbelly.

Although The Canal is famous for its glitz and glamour, it is arguably more infamous for its expansive black market trade that is capable of acquiring items ranging from illicit drugs to military-grade weaponry and delivering those items to wherever they’re purchased, even colonies as far as Pluto. The CEC’s government for the most part has not taken any significant measures to stop the black market smuggling that goes on within its borders, the occasional token law is passed but for the most part to the average person it appears as if the government is allowing the black market to thrive, and that’s because they most likely are, as the CEC is notorious for its government corruption.
